JEET KUNE DO
Jeet Kune Do (JKD) was devised by Bruce Lee as a personal philosophy and physical expression of his studies, theories and modifications to the "traditional" fighting methods that existed at that time. His goal, was to create a way that the individual could truely express themselves truthfully in combat and not be bound or restricted within the limitations of a chosen style or system. He believed that true combat utilised all parts of the body and in all positions i.e. stand-up, clinch and ground. Because of this, he studied form, mechanics and movement in order to find the most efficient and practical way for the body to move; it disgarded anything that was flowery and inefficient; he stripped away all unwanted motion so that he could have complete simple and direct movement. Jeet Kune Do utilises efficiency and offence as its core. It utilises boxing, kicking, elbows, knees, head-butts, hair pulling, clinching, throwing and elements of grappling. All of these things are within JKD. Simon McGovern began training in Jeet Kune Do with Dave Carnell and the Magda Institute Association in 1992 at age 16. He progressed through the ranks to become Dave Carnell's assistant and Protege and he is to date, the first and only student ever to achieve the rank of Full-Instructor under Dave and the first Second Generation under Cass Magda and the Magda Institute Association.
